Obituary of Brian F. Spaulding

Brian passed away peacefully on Aug. 22, 2024 at the age of 73. A longtime resident of Forest Hills, Brian was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his wife, Linda Perrotta-Spaulding, his dear nephew, Christopher Downey (Lisa DeLuca), great nephew, Nicholas, great niece, Isabella, and many cousins, in-laws and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Jane Bowling. Brian was born on April 30, 1951 to Isabelle (Cartaina) and Bernard Spaulding. He spent his formative years in Glen Cove and Elmhurst and moved to Forest Hills as a teenager. Having lived on the same street for over 60 years, Brian was known as the “mayor” of the block. Over the years, he befriended local residents and formed meaningful relationships with many shopkeepers. His friendly, curious nature and goodness always shined bright. He served on the Forest Hills Gardens Corporation Board of Directors and participated on the Upkeep Committee for many years. Brian attended Forest Hills High School and graduated from Fordham University with a B.A. in Economics. He was an electrician by trade and, as a proud member of Local 3, supervised many complex construction projects in New York City. Brian had many passions which filled him with purpose and joy. From an early age, Brian was a sports enthusiast, and especially loved hockey and baseball. As a young man, he was an all-star on a semi-professional roller hockey team and was very proud of this accomplishment. He had a strong interest and broad knowledge of American history and was a founding benefactor of the National WW II Museum in New Orleans. Brian found fulfillment helping those in need and made yearly contributions to many charities but the one closest to his heart was the scholarship fund he started at The Mary Louis Academy in honor of his sister, Jane. Although he had many interests, Brian cherished his family most of all. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, caring uncle, and a generous and kind friend to all who knew him. A Mass in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31st at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 110-06 Queens Blvd. Forest Hills, NY 11375
