My name is Luis Moreno and I had the privilege of knowing Rita throughout her hospice in the facility I work at as a Music Therapist. Our relationship started with the few minutes she’d spend visiting my shows in a large dining hall with her husband next to her, but when she became a bed bound resident I took it upon myself to spend an hour of my day just playing music for her at her bedside. She would spend a lot of her time with others with her eyes closed, however with me she would share stories about her husband and son and talk about her lover for certain songs. It was her love for nat King Cole’s songs that brought us together, but it’s the memories and conversation and connection we shared daily that I will cherish forever.
