Obituary for Lois Wisnewski
Lois Joan Wisnewski was born January 2, 1935 in
Jamaica,Queens, New York, and grew up in Richmond Hill, New York
with her mother and father. She went to John Adams high school and
met her husband Bill Wisnewski, a classical pianist, at a bowling alley
in Queens, NY. She went on to raise two children, Willie and Andrew,
in Kew Gardens, NY.
Lois loved to travel. Among her talents, Lois was an excellent
seamstress, and designed/sewed her own wedding dress amongst
other attire. During her travels, she visited San Francisco, England,
Italy, and China. Through her love for music, she joined
Queensborough Community Chorus and performed with them for
several years (and sang for the Pope with her chorus in Italy) and
played classical and folk guitar for many years thereafter including
teaching the neighborhood children guitar. Lois devoted her time as
President of the Parent Association at PS 99 in Kew Gardens, NY
whereby she served for a short time. Lois worked as Executive
Secretary to the Director of Concerts and Lectures at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art, in New York, NY. When her children were grown, Lois
started Queens College at the ACE program, working days and
attending classes at night, graduating with a BA in English. Lois
enjoyed writing poetry and short stories. When she retired, following
the loss of her husband, Bill and son, Willie, Lois stayed in Kew
Gardens, NY in her home until her last days, whereby her son,
Andrew took care of her and was at her bedside daily. Lois was an
amazingly devoted and determined wife and mother who cared deeply
for her family.
