Obituary of Mary A Sarro

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Mary Anna Sarro. She was benevolence personified, an outstanding mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Mary suffered a severe stroke on November 8, 2021, and died peacefully in the presence of family on January 26, 2022.

Mary is survived by husband Anthony Joseph Sarro; children, Theresa Sarro, Anthony J. Sarro, Jr, his wife Maria, Nicholas Sarro, and Maria Sarro; 7 grandchildren; 6 nieces and nephews; and siblings JoEllen Haas of Cape Girardeau, MO, Richard Clippard of Columbus, OH, his wife Patricia, and sisters in law Marie Schmahl, Frankie Clippard.  She was preceded in death by parents Marybelle and Ennis Clippard of Cape Girardeau, MO; brother Milford Clippard; parents in law Rose and Nicholas Sarro; and brothers in law, Robert Sarro, Robert Schmahl.

Mary was born on January 6, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, MO.  She attended Southeast Missouri State College before moving to Washington DC to work in the Pentagon for two 5-star generals.  There she met Anthony Sarro, a Georgetown graduate student, and they married on December 18, 1952.   After living in South Carolina where Tony served in the Navy, they moved to New York for him to attend medical school.   She supported him throughout, working in his medical office while raising four children.

Mary lived life to the fullest, dancing, singing in choirs, performing in shows, traveling, bowling, crafting, spending summers at a Connecticut lake house, and winters with her sister in Florida, and, much more.   She was all about personal growth, engaged in lifelong learning, and often shared inspiring quotes and words of wisdom.  Her greatest joys, though, were family and friends, who’s lives she lit up and who could always count on her.  She was a caring and loving person who touched many.

It was her wish that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.     If you wish to do so, go to the Mary Sarro Memorial Gift Fund link at: http://giftfunds.stjude.org/Mary_Sarro
