GRACE K. PITTS SHACKLEFORD celebrated her 94th birthday in January, surrounded by friends, and, after her many lively years, slipped away to her final rest at her Forest Hills home on February 6 , 2014. Grace was born in Brooklyn January 27, 1920, the daughter of Alfred Leigh Pitts and Pearl Gerberich Pitts, and came to Forest Hills Gardens with her family in 1924. A graduate of James Madison University, she had a career with the Rockefeller Family Foundation. Grace is recalled as an active participant in her community where she was a member of the Church-in-the-Gardens, the Women's Guild of the Church, the Forest Hills Women's Club, and the West Side Tennis Club. She also was an active supporter of The Kew-Forest School as well as animal rescue groups. Predeceasing Grace, besides her parents, was her husband of 15 years, Paul A. Shackleford, Jr. and her sister, Eleanor S. Pitts.
