Obituary of John Jeremiah Richardson
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John J. Richardson, 83 years old, of Manhasset, NY, passed away on June 8, 2014 after a long illness. John was born in Jamaica, NY on December 29, 1930. He was the only child of Helen (Slattery) and Benjamin F. Richardson.
John was an attorney for several insurance companies and had his own private practice. He received a BA from Fordham University (1952) and his law degree from St. John's University (1959). He also served as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
John met his beloved wife Miriam in 1953. They were married for sixty years. They had nine children: John, Gerard, James, Joseph, Jean, Paul, William, Nancy and Amy; they also had 21 grandchildren.
John was a resident of Forest Hills, NY for more than fifty years. He attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School. He was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Mercy, Forest Hills, and Christ the King in Springfield Gardens, NY
John was an active alumnus of Fordham University. His greatest joy over the last several years was attending football games in the fall at the Rose Hill campus in the Bronx. He was also an avid Mets fan.
John Richardson marched to the tune of a different drummer. More than anything, he knew his own mind. He wasn't extravagant yet he could be generous to a fault. He sometimes could be overbearing but he never took himself too seriously. A successful investor and businessman, he sometimes forgot that once in a while he needed to enjoy his success. Old habits die hard. Finishing law school at night with 4 little ones at home and five on the way taught him never to be too complacent. He will be sorely missed.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to "Fordham Prep School". The money collected will go to a scholarship for incoming freshman in need of financial assistance in my our fathers memory.
